Project DESCRIPTION:

Brawler is a 2D beat-them-up co-op fighting game that is similar to Streets of Rage 4, where the players play as twin sisters with martial arts skills that have to fight against criminals and gang members in a story-driven game and explore the 1970s Boston in a more fictional version of it. where the player plays a martial arts character that has to fight through different types of enemies in a story-driven game. This game is being developed by a studio class inside my school where we are divided into groups that work on different sections of the game like artists, modelers, and game designers. My group consisted of three people, where we focused on designing the game like mechanics, enemies, story, and levels. My role in the group was the level design, where I created concepts first for the level and walkthrough before creating a working blockout of the levels in the game engine. After that, I created a simple blockout of the level without art assets and basic enemies. For the rest of the project, I had to communicate with the artist on what we needed, and how it would look in-game, and build upon the idea. Once we get new mechanics and artwork created, I add them slowly to the level and provide feedback if any changes are needed. So far, this game has one completed and polished level.

My ROLE

Level and Game Designer

I work on the level design most of the time and a little bit of the game design while other members of my team did the art assets, audio, game design, and scripting.

  • Created and designed Level documents, 2D map drawings, and basic blockout in UE4

  • Created and Designed 2D levels in UE4 while collaborating with artists, audio designers, and game designers to achieve a high-standard game made from scratch

  • Created documents that explained the narrative, gameplay, and level for artists, audio designers, game designers, and myself to understand what they need to do in their roles.

  • Continuously collaborated and communicated with the artists to update existing art assets and get new art assets that would work with the level better both in looks and placement.

  • Was in charge of the Placement of 2D Art of level objects and environments in the game and making sure that they both worked together

  • Was in charge of creating the shadows of level objects and environments

  • Uploading work and progress through Perforce

  • Polishing and designing a game level to a professional standard
