PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Ocean City is a CTF game level for Unreal Tournament game, a quake-like game for PC. That took about four weeks to learn about the unreal tournament and then create this level. The first week, I took the time to play Unreal Tournament on my own time with friends to understand the gameplay mechanics and how they designed levels for this game. After I understood the game well, I worked on creating a 2D concept map drawing along with a reference sheet to get the idea of the level down before creating a blockout. At the third week, with the concept map and reference sheet, I created the first blockout and tested it multiple times to improve it over the week. The last week, I received feedback and playtest from my teacher, I used it to improve my level some more until the end of the project when my teacher and class played it and gave final feedback to it that I added to the level on my own time.

MY ROLE

Level Designer

I created the level and its models, but the audio and game mechanics & models are from the Unreal Tournament editor.

  • Designed and Created Level Documents, blockout, a 2d map drawing, and models.

  • Learned by playing the game and messing with it in the game engine about the existing player movement, weapons, game objects, and game modes to decide how to create a level and what mechanics and weapons to have in it

  • Playtest the level over and over again the level in order to change or tune the player's movement, weapons, jump pads, and other game mechanics to make the level and game feel like they are working together for the player
